Consultation on Changes to FIT and ROC payments

Westmill Energy has responded to a Government consultation on changing the inflation indexation of FIT and ROC payments.

In our submission we highlight that changing how these payments are calculated retrospectively, as the Government is proposing, will have an enormous impact. We are concerned that the proposed changes will ultimately undermine confidence in Government policy, creating a landscape of uncertainty which will discourage investment into the UK in the future. This will, in turn, negatively affect the UK economy, and prevent the economic growth that the Government is so focused on achieving.

We also concerned that altering that way that FIT and ROC are paid out will also give rise to a wave of negativity about green energy and damage confidence in the Government’s plans for a transition to an energy system based around renewables. Of course, we also recognise that energy prices in the UK are significantly higher than other European countries and work needs to take place to bring these down. Investment in renewable energy is central to this, but we are concerned that changing FIT and ROC payments will create failing confidence in Government policy, and in turn, in green energy.

We are keen to work with the Government and other organisations within the sector to consider alternative options which will help to reduce electricity prices, involve citizens in a more equitable energy system and support the Government in achieving its ambitions for green energy.
