Offshore Wind Learning (OWL)

WeSET have teamed up with Offshore Wind Learning (OWL) to offer an adult course in offshore wind and a set of learning materials for schools in offshore wind.

The adult OWL course consists of eight modules, within 29 interactive lessons and is designed to be around 30 hours of study in total.

  • Modules include:
  • Development
  • Project Design and Engineering
  • Commercial and Finance
  • Supply Chain and Construction
  • Human Resources

Students benefit from access to support whilst studying, as well as reduced fees for membership of Energy Institute and free initial membership of Institute of Marine Engineering (IMarEST)

Big Solar Co-op: Community Solar Foundation Course

Big Solar Co-op have launched a Community Solar Foundation Course, designed to give participants the knowledge and practical skills to support solar installations within their own communities.

Modules will cover a wide range of subjects, such as:

  • Introduction to community energy
  • Introduction to solar technology and energy market
  • The business model and the society form
  • Financial analysis
  • Funding sources
  • Legal agreements & insurance

The course will be delivered over three months, via e-learning modules, live seminars, an online support forum and course work.

Big Solar Co-op also aim to build in at least one face-to-face meeting and a site visit.

Stir To Action: Co-op Development Training Course

Westmill Solar Co-operative have teamed up with Stir To Action to offer professionals within the co-operative sector funding for a Co-op Development Training Course. This 6-month online programme provides practitioners with specialist training to gain the relevant skills, knowledge, and confidence to work as advisors in the co-operative and community business sectors.

The course is designed to build on prior experience in the sector, and gives participants the tools, resources and skills to provide quality support to organisations which are looking to develop their co-operatives further. There is also the opportunity to stay connected with sector peers and a network of barefoot alumni for ongoing support and knowledge-sharing.

The barefoot course is designed for a new generation of practitioners who want to support others to start up or grow their own community-led organisations across a wide variety of sectors. A bursary is available towards the cost of the course.
