Rampion Offshore Wind Visit
On 19th July, a group of 12 enthusiastic participants, including Westmill Sustainable Energy Trust (WeSET) trustees, officers, guides, and Westmill members, embarked on an inspiring trip to Brighton to visit Rampion Offshore Wind Farm. Organised in collaboration with Ross Boats, the journey took just over two hours and was a unique and memorable experience. Emma Arnold, Education Officer at WeSET, explains what made the trip so special:
Located over eight miles off the Brighton coast, Rampion’s 116 towering turbines form a striking silhouette against the horizon.
As the boat navigated gently between the turbines, the group was treated to exceptional close-up views of these graceful engineering marvels. Quiet and majestic, the turbines stood like serene sentinels harnessing the power of the offshore winds.
The weather was remarkably kind to us despite a forecast to the contrary; predominantly clear skies and calm waters added to the sense of awe and reflection. It was an ideal setting to witness renewable energy in action and sparked conversations around innovation, and the future of clean power. For many of us, this was more than just a boat trip, it was a powerful visual testament to the scale and potential of offshore wind energy.
We left Brighton not only with fantastic photographs but with a renewed commitment to the values that guide our work at Westmill and our vision for a future of renewable energy.
