Offshore Wind

The UK will need 100,000 more people working in offshore wind in the next decade.

We are excited to have teamed up with Offshore Wind Learning (OWL) to offer children and adults access to educational materials about offshore wind.

Discovering Offshore Wind

Aimed at primary school pupils (Key Stage 2/Key Stage 3: age 7-11), this free lesson pack enables children to explore how offshore wind farms work, why turbines are placed at sea, and what makes renewable energy so vital for our future.

Perfect for classroom use or enrichment activities, we have developed this pack in collaboration with OWL, from material in the adult offshore wind course.

OWL School Resources

These are designed for secondary school pupils (Key Stage 3/Key Stage 4: age 11-16), with the aim of educating students about careers in the sector.

OWL has worked with teachers and education experts to create a free set of materials, based on their adult course, for teachers to use in the classroom.

The course has been broken down into 12 lesson plans plus a scheme of work, giving teachers a ready-made resource to use in the classroom. The material is suitable for use in any country in the world, as it is not tailored to a particular national curriculum.

Adult OWL Course (16+ years old)

Supported by leading organisations in the energy sector, the adult OWL course consists of eight modules, within 29 interactive lessons and is designed to be around 30 hours of study. The course concludes with an exam and certificate on completion.

Modules include Development, Project Design and Engineering and Commercial and Finance.

Students benefit from access to support while studying, as well as reduced fees for membership of Energy Institute and free initial membership of Institute of Marine Engineering (IMarEST).

The adult OWL course has a £100 fee. If you are a student or will find it difficult to pay for this, please email education@weset.org as we may be able to assist.
