Democratic Control

As a co-operative, Westmill Wind is committed to a fair and equitable governance process. We work on a ‘one member, one vote’ basis which ensures that all members have an equal voice in the voting process, regardless of how many shares they hold. Only members of the co-operative are eligible to serve on the board, ensuring that board members will work in the best interest of the membership.

Member Training

Westmill Wind Farm Co-operative has consistently sought to educate and inform our members on the benefits of community renewable energy. As part of this, we have periodically offered opportunities for our members to attend different seminars and training courses. Most recently, all members were offered the chance to join a day-long online seminar ‘Zero Carbon Britain’. This course was organised in partnership with the Centre for Alternative Technology.

Community Benefit Fund

It has always been a guiding principle of Westmill Wind Farm Co-operative that its success depends on a thriving local community and since 2009, Westmill Wind contributes £7,500 each year to support the work done by our partner charity, WeSET.

Historically, Westmill Wind has also contributed to other community organisations on an ad hoc basis.

As partial owners of Westmill Wind Farm, members know that their investment is actively reducing carbon emissions. Each year, the co-operative prevents around 1,750 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. That is the equivalent of 417 petrol cars driving for a whole year .

Trading Dividend

As pioneering co-operatives in the community renewable energy movement, Westmill Solar Co-operative and Westmill Wind Farm Co-operative have a long-term goal to enable members to buy the electricity that we collectively generate. The Trading Dividend is a step on this path.

What is the Trading Dividend?
The Trading Dividend is a payment, delivered via a credit on their energy bills, to members for purchasing the electricity we produce. Each year, our members who are also customers of Your Co-op Energy, received £50 off their electricity bills.

How to apply
To be eligible for the Trading Dividend, you must be a member of either Westmill Wind or Westmill Solar Co-operatives and also a Your Co-op Energy customer.

This page will be updated when the next round of sign-ups is open.

Additional information about the Trading Dividend, including how it works and who to contact for queries, can be found on our Trading Dividend page.
