Westmill Energy Members Meet To Plan For The Future

Five people crowd around a table in discussion. Three man and a lady stand, whilst one man sits.

On Saturday 16th May, Westmill Wind and Solar Co-operative members met at The King’s Centre, Oxford, to look at the future for the co-operatives at our Westmill Energy Member’s Day.

Armed with context about the community energy sector and information from experts in their field, members collaborated with Wind and Solar Directors and Energy4All staff to explore how the co-operatives might develop and what the next phase for Westmill might look like.

With the release of the Local Power Plan this year and a commitment from the Government to double the size of the co-operative and mutuals sector, we are at a key juncture for community energy groups. Changes in funding and opportunities for site development also make this a crucial time for Westmill.

As co-operatives, Westmill Wind and Solar are run in accordance with the seven international co-operative principles. This means that we have a one member; one vote approach, so that all members have an equal say in how the co-operatives are run, regardless of their financial commitment. Further consultation with our members will decide the next steps for the co-operatives and the future for Westmill.
